5 mistakes to avoid while cooking egg dishes

Eggs are an ideal breakfast food. Though they are inexpensive and small, they are known to be the powerhouse of nutrients. They are rich in proteins, essential fatty acids, and fat-soluble Vitamin E and D. A great thing about the egg is that you can prepare many different recipes with them. Whether you are planning to make chingri malai curry or egg curry recipe, one thing is sure: if eggs are not cooked properly, they will not be a gift for your taste buds. If you wish to find the mistakes to avoid when cooking egg dishes, this article is for you!

1. Not Using Fat

If you use a non-stick utensil, you may think that you do not need any fat. Even with non-stick pans, you need to add some butter, coconut oil, or olive oil. It will let the eggs cook more evenly and prevent them from rubbing. Ensure to heat the pan properly before you add the fat.

2. Overboiling

When you let the eggs simmer away while hard-boiling for a very long time, their shells can crack up, and their yellow yolk will turn greyish on the surface. So, the best way to boil eggs is to just boil the eggs and lower the flame. For hard-boiled eggs, continue cooking for 8 minutes. For soft-boiled eggs, 4 minutes of further cooking will be enough.

3. Not Cracking Eggs Properly

Do you know there is a wrong and a right way to break an egg? Most people crack their eggs over our mixing bowl. However, it is not the best way always. It can let small eggshell pieces fall into the mixing bowl. You will then need to fish those pieces out. To avoid this, it is best to tap the eggs on any flat counter before opening them in a bowl.

4. Seasoning Too Late

If you don’t add salt to the eggs timely, they will squeeze out liquid while coagulating and curdling. It can impact your scrambled eggs’ texture and make them harden. When you add salt to your whisked eggs, you prevent the proteins from combining and hence make tender eggs.

5. Peeling Hot Eggs

When you have less time, you may peel freshly boiled eggs. It will not just make it harder for you to get clean eggs, but you will also end up wasting more time than you would if you cooled them first. Add your eggs to cold water. Peel them once they cool completely.

While eggs look simple to prepare, they actually can be with some practice and lots of patience. They are heavily debated and experimental. Remember the above mistakes to avoid when you cook eggs, irrespective of the recipes you will be using them for.
